Grounded by our Roots, a new exhibition of extraordinary works by up-and-coming Indigenous artists who draw inspiration from their cultural traditions, in the Northwest Coast Hall’s rotating contemporary art gallery. Included with General Admission.

The year-round Davis Family Butterfly Vivarium with up to 1,000 free-flying butterflies.
The Susan and Peter J. Solomon Family Insectarium, a gallery devoted to Earth’s most diverse and abundant animal group and home of the largest leafcutter ant colony in the US.
Floor-to-ceiling displays of the Museum’s scientific collections spread out across three levels help us understand the natural world and global cultures.

How to reserve a time:

  1. Select the "Passholders or IDNYC and Corporate Members" checkbox.

  2. Select the number of tickets.

  3. Select the date and time of entry.

Questions or changes: If you have any questions or need to change or cancel your reservation, please contact the Museum at (212) 769-5200 prior to the day of your visit.

Entry:
  • You will need to present your Sightseeing Pass ticket confirmation email and QR codes plus a copy of your separate American Museum of Natural History timed-entry reservation email for entry.

  • Proceed through security to an admission desk at any of the Museum’s entrances. Note you may experience a brief waiting period to clear security, entrances at the Rose Center for Earth and Space at 81st Street and the Gilder Center at 79th and Columbus Avenue usually have shorter wait times. If you wish to add on ticketed experiences, you can do so for $10 per experience per person.

  • The Museum encourages you to arrive as close to your ticketed time as possible, however, the Museum is usually able to accommodate early or late arrivals.

Reminder that the Museum is closed on Thanksgiving, 11/23 and Christmas, 12/25.

Important information about what is new and upcoming at the museum is below:
  • The Secret World of Elephants opens November 13, 2023, and explores the evolution of elephants, their political and cultural significance, and inspiring efforts to overcome threats to survival. Available with General Admission + One ticket type (GA +1).

  • PrThe Origami Holiday Tree will go on November 11, 2023-January 2024. The theme of this year’s 13-foot tree is The Secret World of Elephants. Available with General Admission. Available with General Admission.

  • On view now, Garden of Green: Exquisite Jewelry from the Collection of Van Cleef & Arpels is a dazzling celebration of green gemstones as featured in jewelry over the past 100 years, from the apple-green of peridot to the dark, deep green of malachite. Available with General Admission.
  • Please Note: Visitors to the American Museum of Natural History can enjoy all of the below offerings during extended hours this year, from 9 am–6 pm, beginning Wednesday, December 27, through Saturday, December 30. The Museum is closed on Christmas Day but open all other days—including New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
