Cajun Pride Swamp Tours

Step back in time to the early days of Louisiana, meet alligators up close, and enjoy the primitive beauty of moss draped cypress trees in the Manchac Swamp. At this privately-owned wildlife refuge just 25 miles outside New Orleans, there will be no other boats to interfere with your bayou expedition. There is a certain allure to the mystique of swamps and alligators, and this is a perfect way to satisfy your curiosity while enjoying a leisurely cruise through the swamp with an expert guide. All of Cajun Pride’s guides have strong Louisiana roots and are expert naturalists eager to share their love for and knowledge of life in the swamps, often with great humor and a sprinkling of personal anecdotes.

Along with alligators, be on the lookout for great blue herons, cormorants, snakes, egrets, sandpipers, hawks, owls, deer, wood ducks, and the very vocal pied-billed grebes. During the winter season the large alligators will be hibernating unless it is a bright, sunny day, but it is still likely that you will see the baby gators and be able to hold one. See a racoon family enjoying a meal and look for turtles, as you learn all about the bayou ecosystem and the people who have made their living in the swamps for so many years. Here in the back country, as your boat drifts through the waterways, you’ll appreciate the peaceful beauty that surrounds and envelops you as you enjoy the flora and fauna and hear the story of the Cajun town of Frenier within the Manchac swamp.

Stop in at the snack bar before your excursion for beverages and snacks you can take on the 1.5 hour boat ride. Afterward, check out the gift shop for swamp-related novelties as well as Cajun Pride shirts, Cajun music, and Louisiana cookbooks and history books.
