Empire State Building Observatory

Opened in 1931, the Empire State Building is an Art Deco masterpiece—and one of the tallest skyscrapers in the entire country. It also offers two amazing observation decks, giving you unparalleled views of uptown and downtown Manhattan, and beyond. On the 86th floor, there’s an open-air, 360-degree terrace, complete with binoculars for an up-close-and-personal view (there’s also an indoor gallery, if the weather isn’t cooperating or it’s a little too chilly for your taste). Then, on the 102nd floor, you’ll find an indoor, climate-controlled gallery that also offers stunning 360-degree views. Open from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily, the Empire State Building’s observatory is one New York City site that really should be on everyone’s short list. The views are amazing. The experience of standing high in the sky is nothing short of breathtaking. Plus, it’s one of those things you want to be able to tell you’re friends and family you’ve done! A sightseeing tip: Long lines are common at this popular destination, so book your tickets in advance.
