Hatch Show Print

Now located inside the Country Music Hall of Fame, the iconic letterpress poster shop, Hatch Show Print, opened in Nashville in 1875. The shop secured a place in history by capturing the magic of music in eye-catching advertising posters. The Hatch brothers’ very first job promoted a Nashville appearance by the Rev. Henry Ward Beecher, brother of abolitionist and author Harriet Beecher Stowe. Quickly, they established a reputation with billboard size prints advertising circuses, minstrel shows, tent revivals and magicians, as well as with small industries such as groceries and laundries.

Iconic Americana is on display in the Haley Gallery featuring restrikes of original posters as well contemporary interpretations by national and local artists. On the tour, hear the presses cranking out brilliantly colored posters from the past and compare them with modern advertisements. Learn about Will Hatch, credited with giving the shop its identity with his hand carved lettering and imagery. The concept of your designer and printer being a one-stop shopping experience is part of what was, and still is, the immense popularity of Hatch Show Print.

Head on into the Hatch classroom workshop, the print shop within a print shop, to design your own commemorative souvenir and try out the letterpress. The tactile experience is the draw in today’s world of digital imagery. Visit the shop to purchase awesome reprint posters featuring musicians such as Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Patsy Cline and many others. Other gifts include mugs, bandanas, flasks and journals, all with that unique Hatch Shop lettering showcasing unique slogans and prints.
