Los Angeles

San Diego & LaJolla - 1 Day

Take an air-conditioned bus or van out of Los Angeles for sightseeing in San Diego, with additional stops at La Jolla and Coronado Island to add to the fun. You’ll depart south along the coast of southern California and make your first stop at La Jolla Cove, one of the most photographed beaches tucked between sandstone cliffs. La Jolla means “the jewel” and you’ll quickly see how it earned this name. As a marine refuge area, you may get to see seals, sea lions, or other local sea life. With its white sand beach and gorgeous grass park above the cliffs, this is a scene you will want to have as a souvenir so get your camera out and ready.

Next stop is San Diego! Visit the seaport village to discover why it ranks in the top five best places to live. You’ll board the USS Midway, now a maritime museum, which was the United States’ longest-serving aircraft carrier of the 20th century. It will be like going to sea without ever leaving port! More than 60 exhibits with a collection of 25 restored aircraft will keep you captivated as you explore flight control, officers’ quarters, the engine room, the brig and galley, and climb aboard planes or try your hand at a flight simulator.

After the tour you’ll proceed to Coronado Island, a small, tree-lined beach haven which is really a peninsula connected to the mainland by a strip of land called the Silver Strand. Here you’ll see the Hotel del Coronado, one of the few surviving examples of an American architectural genre, the wooden Victorian beach resort. A favorite hotel of U.S. Presidents, celebrities and heads of state, this is the location of Marilyn Monroe’s film “Some Like It Hot.”

You’ll end the day at the “Old Town” to see the original Spanish settlement which was founded in 1769, the beginnings of modern day San Diego.

This is a perfect outing for anyone who would like to see a lot in one day without stretching beyond what is reasonable for a day. Traveling from place to place in the comfortable bus allows time between each destination to regroup and appreciate what you’ve just seen. Amadeo Travel is proud to bring you highly skilled drivers and guides along with a policy of “no hidden fees.” Your admission to the Aircraft Carrier Midway is included.
